Internship Spotlight: Patrick Tomek

Patrick Tomek completed a three-month internship with CEP during which he focused on

property infrastructure maintenance and repair. In addition to these duties, Tomek participated

in soil collection as a part of The Soil Inventory Project, a science-led nonprofit building a

decentralized national soil carbon inventory that will support land managers through accessible

data and landscape analysis.

“My favorite project was the soil survey, because it allowed me to help gather

samples that will later be useful in driving management decisions,” Tomek said. “This internship

provided opportunities to gain insight into the inner-workings of wildlife

management, hands-on experience in the field and working with different tools and

machinery.”

Tomek holds a Bachelor of Science in Forestry with an emphasis in wildlife management from

Stephen F. Austin State University.
